Since winning Sound Track in 2020, VENTILATEUR has been on our radar non-stop. The band uses a classic rock line-up to create exciting, experimental jazz music. On Hoofdplaat, tasty riffs and Eastern influences merged so wonderfully. It should therefore come as no surprise that Karate, a band that also forges both genres into an identity in its own way, called on the band at the end of 2022 to provide the support act for its comeback on West Flemish soil. In 2025, new album Rage de Vivre will be released and the forerunner “Brûl” was already a very strong forerunner. The menacing guitar work clearly prevailed over the dreamy jazz and Nathan Daems elevated the whole thing to a new dimension on saxophone.
“Volk” can be compared to that previous single in few ways. The song feels like a stand-alone work of art and there is a very clear reason for that. West Flemish actor Sebastien Dewaele, known from Bevergem, among other places, delivers a four-minute monologue in his flat native dialect. Don't expect a spoken word life lesson à la Baz Luhrman. The text, which focuses on practical problems when putting out the glass container, is more reminiscent of The Misfortunates, the award-winning novel by Dimitri Verhulst. The supporting music is southern and is perfect for the ears, although it is almost a shame that it is overshadowed by the spoken performance. VENTILATEUR, on the other hand, makes it clear that versatility is paramount on the new album. 2025 will be the year of VENTILATEUR, write it down.
The new album Rage de Vivre will be released on 28 February. (source https://www.dansendeberen.be/2025/01/21/nieuwe-single-ventilateur-volk-feat-sebastien-dewaele/)
